We have stood here since 1938. Four generations, one counter and a new delivery every morning. What you see on ice today was still in the sea yesterday — and we now drive it out to Leiden, Leiderdorp, Voorschoten, Wassenaar and Leidschendam.

We deliver fresh fish and seafood platters
Not everything we sell travels well. Fried fish goes soft within twenty minutes, so kibbeling and lekkerbek stay in the shop. What we do deliver is fresh fish from the auction and seafood platters — packed cold and driven out by us.

Three seafood platters — add what you like
A drinks platter for four to six, a family platter, or the big party platter with oysters and prawns. You see exactly what is on each. Want something extra — more prawns, a dozen oysters — you add it yourself and the price moves along.

Gerrit Schaap started it, we keep it going
Gerrit Schaap opened the shop in 1938. Cor Haasnoot started working here at thirteen and took over in 1957. His son Aldert runs it now — everyone in the neighbourhood simply calls him 'Schaap'. The name above the door never changed.

Where it comes from
We know where it came from
MSC for wild-caught fish, ASC for farmed, and Varlaks: organic salmon from family farms above the Arctic Circle, raised without antibiotics. Not for the label on the shelf, but so we can tell you the story if you ask.
